Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium reopens in Golden Flake factory
Birmingham, AL: On Monday, August 4, 2025, Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium
opened to the public in their new store location at 1 Golden Flake Drive in Birmingham,
Alabama. They will continue to celebrate their Grand Opening throughout the week with a
Grand Opening party this weekend Friday, August 8 th through Sunday, August 10th .
Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium specializes in unique goods from around the world,
including building materials, furniture, home décor, and garden supplies. The new location has
135,000 square feet of retail space plus a 2-acre outdoor garden and patio center.
“That’s twice as much space as we used to have at our Irondale location,” says owner Bubba
Morgan. “And that’s just the inside. We are expanding our outdoor area to include pottery from
around the world, fountains and statuary from Bali, California Redwood decking, composite
decking, mulch and bagged rocks. These are items we couldn’t carry in Irondale, or could only
carry in limited quantities. Now we’ll have room for it all.”
“Folks will still find all their favorite stuff, just lots more of it,” said store manager Sheree Ross.
“And because of the size of this location, we’re able to offer our customers items we couldn’t
carry in the old store, like appliances, landscape materials, and a much larger selection of
custom cabinetry. We’re so happy to throw open the doors and welcome the community, new
customers, and old friends!”
“Shopping in the new Birmingham location is truly going to be a unique and fun experience”,
added Lisa Meneses, assistant manager. “We are so excited to bring this historic building back
to life!”
“Every Birmingham resident remembers touring the Golden Flake factory as a child and getting
their little bag of potato chips”, said office manager Tracy Miele. “Now, they can make new
memories and find new treasures from around the world! If you liked us in Irondale, get ready to
be blown away with what you’ll find here in Birmingham!”
Grand Opening specials include $49 full-size Cowhide Rugs, ¾” Solid Unfinished Oak
Hardwood Flooring starting at 49¢ a square foot, Fiberon Composite Decking for $1.50 per
lineal foot, Frigidaire and Electrolux Nick and Dent Appliances at 45%-64% off list prices. As

Some history about Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium, the new Birmingham
location, and 2nds in Building Materials, Inc.
Southeastern Salvage originated in Chattanooga, TN in 1980, and their main distribution center
is also located in Chattanooga. Other Southeastern Salvage and Home Emporium stores,
besides Chattanooga and Birmingham, are located in Mobile and Huntsville, AL; Nashville and
Knoxville, TN; Columbia and Greenville, SC; Springdale, OH; Chesapeake, VA; and Shreveport,
LA for a total of 11 stores in six states.
In April 2024, 2nds in Building Materials, Inc. (corporate office of Southeastern Salvage)
purchased the Golden Flake factory from Utz Brands, Inc. and began work to renovate the
property from a factory to retail and warehouse space. Southeastern Salvage will be the primary
anchor store, but other space will be available for lease or sale, including restaurant, office,
warehouse, and other industry and retail space. (see https://2nds.biz/CoStarImpactAwards.php
for more information about the property acquisition).
Southeastern Salvage Home Emporium’s first Alabama store was in Irondale, opening in June
2005 and consisting of 55,000 square feet of shopping space. After 20 wonderful years in
Irondale, it was time to expand in order to give their customers a better selection of products.
They hope that their loyal Irondale customers are willing to make the 12-mile trip to the new
location at Golden Flake, where they can better serve them with a wider variety of products.
Products made in the U.S. as well as handmade products by artists and craftsmen from around
the world.
Their buyers travel the world, constantly striving to find products that are made from sustainable
resources, saving these materials from landfills, reducing energy usage, air and water pollution,
and even greenhouse gas emissions. The products made from reclaimed materials result in
unique one-of-a-kind finds for customers and help artisans support their families and their
communities through fair trade. 2nds directly imports products from many countries on five
continents.
The company’s commitment to excellence and service goes beyond a commitment to
sustainability, reliable products, and customer service. They also have a commitment to their
employees, offering them profit sharing, flexible work hours, team building exercises, and
opportunities to advance within the company. “Less than 25% of companies in the United States
offer profit sharing and we’re pleased to be one of the companies who do”, said Scott LeRoy,
vice president of 2nds in Building Materials, Inc. “We recognize that our people directly
contribute to the company’s overall profits and we reward their efforts and hard work.”
